Phoenix Beauty Lounge University: Natural Brows

Welcome Back to our Phoenix Beauty Lounge University!

Here’s a professional makeup artist brow tip for much better looking brows:

Class #11

Phoenix Beauty Lounge University: Natural Brows

Phoenix Beauty Lounge University: Natural Brows

“For a natural brow look use your brow products to create an illusion of shadow from brow hair on skin.”

If you’d like to add definition and enhance the look of your eyebrows without making them too fake, too heavy or too “masculine” use a light hand and a light color.

The best color to choose would be your eyebrow color but 1-2 shades lighter. The effect we are going for here is not “painting in extra brow hair”, but that of “shade” that they cast on your skin.

It will create just enough definition without overkill. This technique will make brow product almost invisible during the bright light of the day, so it’s perfect for very natural yet realistically enhanced makeup looks.

Ah-ha! So now you know how to make your brows look natural without that fear of “Rubbed Face. Displaced an entire eyebrow.” kind of effect? You’re welcome!

Phoenix Beauty Lounge University: Makeup Mistakes

Welcome Back to our Phoenix Beauty Lounge University!

One small tip that will make your makeup routine a bit smoother by permanently removing one common time-waster.

Class #10

Just correct that makeup mistake. Don’t ruin the good side to match the bad

Just correct that makeup mistake. Don’t ruin the good side to match the bad

“Just correct that makeup mistake. Don’t ruin the good side to match the bad.”

Oh where do i begin. We’ve all been there and have a lot of painful memories about trying to match the good side to the bad and both of them going terribly wrong. Not to mention we’re late and frustrated.

However, we all have other kind of memories. The kind where you quickly grab a q-tip and quickly correct that mis-hap, then even out the line. The happier kind.

Let’s just do justice to the side that came out perfectly fine and don’t even consider messing it up. Rather remove that extra blusher, that asymmetrical lip liner bit, mis-matched eye liner stroke, and uneven eye shadow.

Let’s face it – we all know how to gently remove the wrong bits of makeup. Let’s just remember all those easy tricks and incorporate them in our daily life so we’re able to quickly clean up the small makeup mistakes and give ourselves another try at doing things right. After all, makeup is all about free-handing the lines of your face 🙂 and sometimes we have to put it on “before” our first cup of coffee and in other challenging and emotionally unstable situations.

Hmm.. So this time you caught yourself by the arm before escalating into that makeup frustration scenario and just erased the wrong bit. Ahh.. doesn’t it feel much better already? You’re welcome!

Phoenix Beauty Lounge University: Painting Nails

Welcome Back to our Phoenix Beauty Lounge University! Hope you all enjoyed your winter break! 😉

Ever wondered how the nail bloggers or nail techs get that perfect nail painting job done with a clean line at the cuticle and all around? Want to know their secret?

Class #9

YoureWelcomeWednesday Beauty University: Painting Nails

YoureWelcomeWednesday Beauty University: Painting Nails

“Painting nails is not coloring between the lines, it’s painting a shape within a shape.”

Contrary to popular belief, painting your nails is different from coloring pictures in a coloring book with random strokes.

In fact, to create a perfectly painted nail, you need to use an exact number of brush strokes in an exact sequence. Also, the vision you need to keep in mind is the one of creating a shape similar to your own nail shape, but 1-2mm smaller. So first, look at your nail shape and study it for a bit 🙂

Nail polish is a pretty finicky medium and in most cases it won’t allow you random strokes without loss of quality. Once you get a hang of it, you’ll be doing this automatically without thinking twice. But first let’s see the steps we need to learn.

When you just pull that loaded brush out of the bottle, wipe half of nail polish off the bottle neck, so you don’t apply way too much paint and flood your cuticles. For that same reason, it is also recommended to place your polish brush slightly ahead of the cuticle line (1), press on the bristles so they “open up” to create a nice rounded shape and with this “open” fanned out brush go down towards the cuticle (2). Stop 1mm before touching the cuticle and go all the way back towards the tip of the nail (3).

Load more polish on the brush if necessary, go back to the base of the cuticle and place the brush a little bit to the side and press down again so it “opens up”. Now pay attention to what the “edge” of that “open” brush is painting for you. This is exactly what you’re painting with now – it’s the outer edge of the brush (4). Pull the brush towards the tip of the nail and make sure that brush edge is creating a clean side line of that shape for you without touching the skin.

Repeat the same steps on the other side (5).

Go around the edge of the nail with some nail polish to fill in any blank spots left and also to “seal the edge” and prolong the wear time of your perfectly painted manicure (6).

Allow yourself a bit extra time for the first few manicures to practice these steps, and then later on you’ll be showing your friends and family how easy that thing is.

Do your nails look less of a dog’s breakfast and more of a salon perfection this time? You’re welcome!

Phoenix Beauty Lounge University: Edit Your Makeup

Welcome Back to our Phoenix Beauty Lounge University!

It’s always good to be honest with yourself and use the beauty products that truly make a difference.

Class #8

“Only use makeup products that enhance your appearance.”

YoureWelcomeWednesday Beauty University: “Only use makeup products that enhance your appearance."

YoureWelcomeWednesday Beauty University: “Only use makeup products that enhance your appearance.”

Is that eye shadow too sheer it doesn’t even show? Is that concealer not pigmented – or creasing on you? Is that primer completely useless? Does that blush color make you look sick? Well maybe it’s time to call it quits and find a good quality replacement. Keyword: Edit.

A lot of times were influenced into using certain hyper-trendy products by YouTube, blogs, cosmetic sales associates, friends, or simply we don’t feel “cool” if we don’t use them (don’t judge). But if you literally can’t see any difference while using it, or even worse – it makes you look less complementing than without it – it’s time to cut the bs and stop using it. Better be honest than nice.

If you remove one useless step from your makeup routine, and replace frustrating products with ones that deliver results, you can save your time and effort and get ready in a shorter period of time. Totally worth it.

Have you noticed that sometimes you apply a certain product more out of habit than because of its real performance. Do a little audit and critical assessment of your makeup steps. Do you really need all of them? Are all the products you use 100% necessary? Do they make you look better? Or maybe they could use some weeding?

Did you get ready faster this time? You’re welcome!

Phoenix Beauty Lounge University: Lip Shaping Trick

Welcome Back to our Phoenix Beauty Lounge University!

This is not the kind of university where you’d want to miss your classes, right?

Today we will examine a trick our body does to us when we do our makeup.

Tip #7

YoureWelcomeWednesday Beauty University: Lip Shape

YoureWelcomeWednesday Beauty University: Lip Shape

“Lining your lips from the outer corner in will create a more full, round lip shape. Lining lips from middle out tends to create a more pointy cupid’s bow”

In 90 cases out of 100, this is what tends to happen. It’s just how are hands work.

Choosing a more rounded lip silhouette or a pointy and straight lip is entirely up to you. Both are fun, but the first one seems to be in line with what’s considered to be the “current beauty ideal”. Whatever.

You can always experiment with both and see what suits your face or your mood better. But it’s always good to know what you’re doing and achieve your desired lip look intentionally.

Have you noticed that sometimes both sides of your lips look uneven or asymmetrical? Look into the way you paint them in. Whatever the lip look, please use the same method on both sides. Makes sense? You’re welcome!

Phoenix Beauty Lounge University

Welcome Back to our Phoenix Beauty Lounge University!

Are you ready to learn one more easy makeup trick that will make your face appear more friendly and approachable?

The thing with these tricks is that once you learn and “see” the visual difference they make, you cannot “unsee” them. You will be noticing the effects of “right” and “wrong” on all the photos in the magazines, the strangers on the bus and all your friends and family members. But promise me that the first person you will apply them to will be that one in the mirror.

Tip #6

YoureWelcomeWednesday Beauty University: Instant Lip Lift

YoureWelcomeWednesday Beauty University: Instant Lip Lift

“Conceal the outer corners of your lips for a more youthful and complementing lip shape”

The corners of the lips is one area we rarely pay attention to, but in fact it’s one of the facial features that can take your overall look from looking “upset” to “welcoming” in seconds.

Even though you may not have downward lip corners naturally, they tend to have redness, discoloration or some kind shadow for most people. And they may eventually sag with age as skin looses it’s tightness and tone.

Concealing the outer lip corners and even adding some subtle highlight to this area will instantly bring a potential “resting bitch face” to its more friendly, almost smiley version. And quite possibly will rewind your lips to a few years back. And who wouldn’t like that?

Definitely apply this subtle lip correction technique next time you do your concealing. Does your resting face look more friendly now? You’re welcome!

Phoenix Beauty Lounge University: Eye Lifting Tricks

Welcome Back to our Phoenix Beauty Lounge University!

More often than not, the difference between a fresh, complementing makeup look that defines and brings out your best features, and the one that’s “meh” and not doing much is in small details. Sometimes it’s even hard to pinpoint these details exactly, and most often they are based on the way we perceive facial features on a psychological level, and on the way our eyesight and brain works.

So if you want to learn more about makeup psychology, visual effects and subtle ways to consciously improve your everyday appearance, keep coming back to read our Wednesday series!

Tip #5

Another eye lifting trick: wipe mascara off the last few lashes or trim your falsies, so your outermost eyelash goes up

Another eye lifting trick: wipe mascara off the last few lashes
or trim your falsies, so your outermost eyelash goes up

“Another eye lifting trick: wipe mascara off the last few lashes
or trim your falsies, so your outermost eyelash goes up”

The last eyelashes on the outer corner of the eye grow on a more horizontal line or sometimes even go down, creating an undesirable “droopy eye” effect for some people.

If you add definition mostly to the lashes that go upwards and remove mascara (or trim falsies, whichever is your case), so that the last defined lash goes up, it will create an instant eye lift, make your eyes appear more awake and will help create more of an almond shape.

This tip also works for the majority of eyelid shapes, including normal, hooded, droopy and monolid. Btw, did you notice that Britney Spears has really droopy eyes? No? Google it. See the power of makeup?

So next time you put your mascara on, check what’s going on in the very outer corners, remove excess and make sure they are nice and perky! See the difference? You’re welcome!

Tip #4:

Do you agree that sometimes makeup tricks can create an instant face feature correction without the use of plastic surgery? Here’s one of such lesser-known but very powerful makeup artistry tricks:

For an instant non-surgical eye lifting effect always conceal the outer corners of your eyes

For an instant non-surgical eye lifting effect always conceal the outer corners of your eyes

“For an instant non-surgical eye lifting effect always conceal the outer corners of your eyes”

The darkness, redness or discoloration in the outer corners visually creates a horizontal eye line. Whereas if you color-correct and conceal this area, your eyes will appear to have more of an upward almond shape, which is very complementing and more youthful.

Very subtle, yet powerful. Works for the majority of eyelid shapes, including monolid.

Look into the mirror. See that little dark area? Conceal it! See the difference? You’re welcome!

Phoenix Beauty Lounge University: brow pencil vs brow powder

Welcome back to our Phoenix Beauty Lounge University!

Tip #3:

“Which product should i better use to fill my eyebrows: a pencil or a powder?” This is one of the most frequently asked questions regarding the selection of right brow product to fill individual beauty needs of our clients. Although we all have our personal beauty preferences established throughout the years, and there is no such thing as right or wrong when it comes to beauty, if you are still debating “brow pencil vs brow powder” use this simple logic:

Rule of thumb: if you have sparse eyebrows with lots of skin you can paint on - use pencil. If you have fuller brows - use powder
